Developer of 3D training software Vivid Visual Studio recently announced the winners of their first ever Vivid Awards design competition. With nearly 500 attendees present at the ceremony held in Tehran, Iran, a panel of judges awarded prizes for the best architectural renderings. As proud sponsor of the competition, RebusFarm is excited to bring you an exclusive interview with Morteza Ramezani and Arzhang Sahabi, winners in the ‘Exterior’ and ‘Interior’ categories respectively.

Morteza Ramezani won first place in the Exterior category with his rendition of Munich’s Allianz Arena.

First of all, congratulations to the both of you for winning the first ever Vivid Awards! To start things off, please introduce yourself to our readers!

Morteza:
Hello everybody, my name is Morteza Ramezani. I was born in Iran in 1988 and have a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Technology. I’ve been working with CG since around 2010 and I'm currently working as lead designer at Urban Office Architecture.

Arzhang:
I’m Arzhang Sahabi, I’m 24 years old and from Iran as well. I also have a bachelor's degree in Architecture and right now I’m working as a freelancer.

Arzhang Sahabi’s creative design won him the Vivid Award in the ‘Interior’ category.

Please tell us about your experience at the Vivid Awards ceremony.

Morteza:
It was a lot of fun! It was the first competition I ever entered and it turned out to be a great opportunity to meet new people, exchange information and swap ideas. I hope the experience will help me to further improve in the future.

Arzhang:
For me too, the Vivid Awards was the first competition I participated in. I honestly wasn’t too confident in my ability to win, but after I had rendered my scene, I started believing in my design more and more.

Let’s talk about your winning images in more detail. Morteza, what’s the story behind your submission?

Morteza:
The biggest challenge for me was finding a suitable subject. I knew I wanted to work with a wide and open landscape and finally decided on a soccer stadium as the focal point. While researching and analyzing existing stadiums all over the world, the Allianz Arena in Munich inspired me the most and I based my design on it.

After creating the building, I chose to present the scene from an aerial view, which allowed me to show the surrounding landscape as I had originally intended, making the scene feel more dynamic overall.

What software did you use for this particular project?

Morteza:
Quite a lot, actually: I used Google Earth Pro, Agisoft Photoscan, Autodesk 3ds Max, Vray, Itoo Forest Pack Pro, Red Giant and finally Adobe After Effects as well as Photoshop.

‘Free Stadium’, work in progress

How about you Arzhang, what can you tell us about the creation and development process of your submission?

Arzhang:
The original idea for this seemingly freestanding bathroom goes back to a concept a group of architects came up with recently. They commissioned me to create a render and expand and improve upon their initial design.

I put a lot of effort into lighting the scene, especially in regards to the reflection in the glass. And since there’s an increasing trend in contemporary interior design to incorporate nature, I tried to organically fit these impressive looking plants into the room.

Speaking software, the image was almost entirely created using 3ds Max and Vray.

Arzhang is equally well versed in the exterior field of architectural visualization.

What are your favorite subjects in CGI and 3D in general?

Morteza:
I’m still very much fascinated by architecture and all of its facets. I'm a huge fan of minimalistic design and take pleasure in trying to omit any and all superfluous elements when working on plans and projects. In CG I paricularly enjoy material, lighting and rendering.

Arzhang:
What’s most exciting to me is the whole process of forming an idea in your mind and then being able to realize it.

 Morteza Ramezani, ‘Studio’

In closing, is there anything else you’d like to say?

Morteza:
Based on my experience at this year’s Vivid Awards, I’d like to enter similar contests in the future. Besides that, I’m always striving to develop new and exciting archviz ideas!

Arzhang:
I’m still developing a unique style for myself and am currently working on making my renders more realistic. I want to thank RebusFarm for having me and giving me the opportunity to show some of my work!

Morteza, Arzhang, thanks for taking the time and once again, congratulations.
